Best UI Ever

I once thought it impossible to design a user interface worse than the fabled FileMatrix(dailywtf.com). How would it be possible to make something more brain-dead than that monstrosity. Well, poor design is alive and well in 2008. Introducing the wonderfully designed Bulk Renamer(bulkrenameutility.co.uk).

Batch renaming made easy

I don't have to say much about the app; the author says everything for me. When you make such statements about your own product, there's a problem:

  • You've installed the software, you've launched it, and you now see a million and one controls and boxes on the screen. The first thing to do is DO NOT PANIC!
  • ...however [the options shown] are nearly all optional.

The author then goes on to describe how the options (shown in the bottom portion of the screenshot) are processed in a particular order, based on numbers shown in the interface. My simple question is this... if the options are optional, why overload the users visual field by showing all of them at once?
