Site re-organization

When I first set things up here, I thought I would use my CMS for the entire site. I didn't realize how much work and how little flexibility that would mean. I was new to it, and a bit naïve.

Well, I have moved it over to it's own subdomain, leaving me the ability to do with the front page as I really want, without having to work out some compromise with my CMS tech. I can design it as I want :~)

Of course, the only problem with that is design time iteself, which can be an issue, and having the motivation to dig into it so far. So, I have to get to work on that.

Django Problem "No User matches the given query"

So, how about this for annoying. I was developing my site and suddenly started having all these pages started having 404 errors with the following text:

No User matches the given query.

No matter what I did, all the login pages were failing. I thought it was a problem with the database, or my code somewhere, but no changes were having an effect. I couldn't figure out what changed, so I did some research and found this simple, albeit less-than-obvious solution.

Plan for the year and this site

Since I have all these plans that I work on here and there, it's only fitting that I bother to update this site a bit more frequently than I currently do. Weekly, perhaps, but maybe more than that. At least weekly though.
There are plans for my photography, and music. Mostly, though, projects deal with the code-y stuff. And, there's always more to say about usability. Not necessarily set up to be a good general source of that, but it's an interest of mine, so why not.

Upgrade Fail

I *barely* managed to update the site without disaster. There might be some problems over the next few days. We'll see.

Oh, and the project, it is officially ON. Stay tuned.

Some new modules for the site

Snowfall in Wisconsin

Very busy day today; I installed a handful of drupal modules to help with my eventual goal of this site. No, it is not done yet. Not even close, really. There is still theming to do, and a few of my projects are not up here yet in any form. So, more work to be done on that front.

Site Plans as of 05 Aug 2008

I managed to clean up the structure of the site some, but there is still a lot more work to do .

The next steps for the site include:
- working on theme for site
- expanding text of my detail sections ('More About Me' stuff)
- adding and completing features for my experiments (image presentation tool, meme maker, and phrase book translation tool)
- adding designed themes to some section of the site (this module could be able to switch themes like the zen garden website, perhaps?)

Small Changes, Phase 1

More boring stuff. I just write to say I have begun more work on the site, to get things better organized. Nothing too substantial here, except for some shifting of links and similar things.

Once I get all of these little trivial things sorted out, then I can get to the more interesting stuff.

Site Upgrade (Update)

I will be performing an upgrade tonight. If I do well, everything will be sweet. If i perform...poorly, say good night.

Here's to upgrades!

EDIT:

Update is complete. No problems, it seems. So, I'm happy.

Items of note about this site:

  • Created front end user interface, and back end database and classes to connect the two together
  • Allows for users to input ranking and comments of each of the listed vendors
